Once again, I’m back to rant about novels that I don’t like 😂
Why it worth ranting? Because the genre and elements were actually good but the author decided to screw it with the plot.
Title: SS级向导
Now let me explain a bit. The genre is sentinel/guide-verse, and also reborn/reincarnation.
The MC is a high level guide, SS-level to be exact and died after killing the queen bug. He came back as a D-level guide (but inside, he still has the SS-level power).
So what’s terrible about the plot? [SPOILER ALERT]
- When MC was still the SS-level guide, everyone adored him and he was a naive dude, being constantly surrounded by kindness. Then the author decided to make his boyfriend a scumbag who constantly gaslight MC of being unreasonable while the boyfriend keeps spending time with his childhood friend, because the childhood friend needs ‘company’. == Yeah, the standard green tea bithc. The author spent quite some chapters describing the unhappy relationship between MC and his boyfriend, hence deserve a paragraph of rant here :v
-
Then MC died, and the scum boyfriend had the audacity to be sad and everything, saying that he loved MC, hah. Anyway, MC came back 2 years later as a D-level guide. The original owner seems to have passed away from exhaustion between working multiple part-time jobs and study. Since MC is using the body now, he has to do the same to earn money. The author made sure to write the poverty level as terrible as possible which was very hard to enjoy. Like, MC is reborn, he has the same great power, and yet lived almost like a beggar because he can’t afford to let anyone know about his ability.
-
Then at the later half of the story, a mysterious girl appeared in a poor district who was said to be S-level guide. People fawned over her because there’s only 5 existing S-level guides before her appearance so you can guess how rare what that. I didn’t finish the novel but the author made it very obvious that this girl is actually the new queen bug (or the previous one didn’t die?). She was all normal but the moment she saw MC one day, she gone crazily obsessed with him (because of his SS-level guide spiritual power which is basically gourmet food for bugs).
She will go crazy if she can’t sense MC nearby her and demanded to see MC, to the point that she will self harm to get what she wants.
- Everyone can see how crazy the girl was but they all blamed MC for that because the girl was normal before she met MC ==. For here onwards, the author spent 80% of the story writing about:
– how much the girl wanted MC, how much she desired him, how she did to get what she wanted
– how much other people hated MC for causing the girl to go crazy, for not accommodating all the requests from the girl to MC, both verbal and nonverbal hatred directed to MC
– how much MC scared of the girl but somehow can’t pinpoint why (this part is actually very annoying), how much MC tried to get away from the girl and all the harassment he gets from the girl when she gets too near
… W T F
Y’all might not know this but Banana really likes futuristic theme romance novel and also sentinel/guide-verse. This kind of novels are rare and I have high hopes for each one I came across.
I actually read this novel before but stopped somewhere in the middle. This time, Banana tried to re-read (with the mindset to tolerate everything because I have nothing left to read) but … I gave up. The plot is terrible, I’m dying. Right now, the sentinels are sending the girl/queen bug to their HQ where all high level sentinel/guide are working. Basically letting the queen bug into a buffet.
I’m not sure if the queen gonna start a massacre or slowly pick the food out one by one since no one suspect her yet. But I can’t stay that long to find out, the negative vibe I get from the novel is killing me _(;3/ Everyone just keep blaming MC for every friggin thing which I would have just give up and kms if I was the MC 😂
