[Announcement] Explanation on downtime during the weekday

Hi guys, I received notifications that my site went down a few times recently, and the longest downtime was 16 hours. Also, I get emails from some of you asking to be notified the next time my site went down, which I can tell you now that it’s quite difficult for me to do so :v

So, here’s the thing. I’m using NameCheap as the host of my site. A few days ago, the entire NameCheap went down lol, so it wasn’t just my site that got affected. Even NameCheap’s dashboard was inaccessible so I wasn’t able to check what’s wrong. If anyone wants to know more, I’m copy-pasting their email to me here below.

Namecheap services back online

Dear Banana,

Our services are now back online following the significant outage caused by a cooling system failure at the RadiusDC: Phoenix data center.

We know many of you were unable to access websites, email, and other services you rely on. We’re deeply sorry for the disruption this caused.

While our teams continue to monitor everything closely, we want to explain what happened, why services had to be taken offline, and what we’re doing next.

What happened?

A major storm knocked out cooling systems at the data center, causing temperatures to rise to unsafe levels.

RadiusDC instructed us to take services offline to protect customer infrastructure. It was a disruptive step, but keeping equipment running could have caused serious and lasting damage.

Remaining offline until conditions were safe also helped prevent further problems during recovery.

How this may have affected you

Several Namecheap services were disrupted:
• Hosting – customer websites and key hosting operations experienced significant disruption.
• DNS – management was unavailable, but existing DNS records continued to resolve.
• URL redirects – redirects management was offline, but existing redirects still worked.
• EasyWP – customer websites and access to EasyWP services were disrupted.
• Private Email – sending and receiving email was unavailable.
• Free Email forwarding – forwarded emails could not be received.

Important: Incoming emails should not have been lost. Only delayed.

What happens next

With services restored, we’re examining the incident in detail and will be taking steps to make our infrastructure more resilient.

This includes adding further redundancy across our data centers in the US, Europe, and Asia.

We’ll also share what we learn and the actions we take, so you have a clear picture of the changes that follow.

Please see our full service update for more information →

We know how much you depend on these services, and we’re sorry we let you down. Thank you for your patience while our teams worked to restore our systems.

Best regards,
Team Namecheap

Banana: Yeah, so now you have it. The next time my site down for a long period, you might wanna check NameCheap for explanation XD
I thought to announce it over my twitter but that account is pretty NSFW with all the sexay art retweet, and Love and Deepspace stuff.
Can’t think of any place to do emergency announcement at the moment so let’s procrastinate for some time :v
