Chapter 143 Gu Ye: This is my beloved
Gu Ye and his group had just come down the mountain when they encountered a policeman leading a man up. The path up the mountain was narrow and could only be traversed on foot. Gu Ye pulled Xie Cheng and Ge Qiaojun aside, squinting as he sized up the man. After they reached him, Gu Ye asked in doubt, “Here to identify the crime scene? There was a couple up there also identifying the crime scene.”
The policeman asked suspiciously, “Who are you?”
Gu Ye pointed at Ge Qiaojun. “That house belongs to his family.”
Ge Qiaojun asked coldly, “You burned down my house, didn’t you?”
Jiao Guangxuan said with a grim face, “That house was so old, how was I supposed to know someone lived there?”
Ge Qiaojun only stared at Jiao Guangxuan coldly, his fingers twitching. Gu Ye grabbed Qiao Qiao’s wrist. “Child, calm down. He’ll be sentenced.”
“Even if he dies, he can’t compensate me for what I have. Some things can’t be measured by money, and I don’t need his compensation.” Qiao Qiao lightly pounded Jiao Guangxuan’s chest with his other hand. “I don’t need your compensation. I’m not short of money.”
Ge Qiaojun left without saying anything more. His actions left the police and Jiao Guangxuan completely bewildered. His house had been burned down, yet he remained so calm?
At the side, Gu Ye was both amused and exasperated. After all, he was the child Auntie had raised; he wasn’t one to be trifled with.
Jiao Guangxuan was taken to identify the crime scene, where Tian Sihui’s parents happened to be there as well. Upon seeing him, the couple’s eyes turned red, and they rushed forward like madmen, wanting to beat this scumbag to death. Even the police couldn’t stop them.
Hearing the cries and screams from afar, Gu Ye’s lips curled into a smile. “Bringing him to the crime scene at this hour, this cop is sure something.”
Xie Cheng asked Ge Qiaojun curiously, “What did you do by punching him just now? Did you cast a spell on him? I didn’t see anything.”
Ge Qiaojun coldly replied, “I want him to be plagued by nightmares, to have heart-wrenching pains, so that as long as he lives, he won’t sleep a wink.”
Gu Ye shrugged, looking profound, and said, “Can’t help it. Meeting him at this time must be due to fate. It’s an arrangement of heaven. Heaven is making him pay his debts, and no one can stop it.”
Looking at Gu Ye and Ge Qiaojun, Xie Cheng was both amused and exasperated. He said, “…Your family is all ruthless people.”
Ge Qiaojun asked disdainfully, “Our family? Who’s related to him?”
“Ah!” Xie Cheng realized, “I misspoke. I thought you two were brothers raised by the same family; you’re quite similar in some ways.”
Gu Ye gave a disdainful sneer, “Heh!”
Ge Qiaojun, equally disdainful, spat at Gu Ye.
Gu Ye: “Tui!” (spitting sound)
Xie Cheng was speechless. Here we go again.
Soon, all those involved in the case were apprehended. Because of the swift and effective resolution, the police received commendation from their superiors. Only those on duty that night knew that the person who delivered the letter was truly not human! The origin of the letter became an unsolved mystery at the police station, because the idea of a ghost delivering a letter was simply too far-fetched. They preferred to believe that a powerful figure was secretly helping them rather than that ghosts existed.
And so, the case was handed over to the police to finalize. As for Gu Ye, he hired people to help Ge Qiaojun build a house, and even wanted to build him a special house for raising insects. Fortunately, many people in the village could help. There was timber on the mountain, and so much bamboo that could be used. He hired a skilled house builder to work with the others, and the construction was completed quite quickly.
One day after work started, Gu Ye received a call from Yu Ze. “Babe, I’m here to pick you up.”
Gu Ye was startled. “What? You’re here?!”
Yu Ze smiled and said, “I’m at the foot of the mountain. I have a lot of stuff, so the climb is a bit slow.”
Gu Ye stood up excitedly. “I’ll come get you!”
Xie Cheng watched Gu Ye run off and called out, “Gu Ye, where are you going?”
As Gu Ye ran, he said, “Yu Ze is already at the foot of the mountain. I’m going to pick him up!”
“Holy crap! Brother Yu is here?” Xie Cheng was dumbfounded. He actually came to pick him up personally. Is Brother Yu really that impatient?
Hearing that Yu Ze had arrived, Ge Qiaojun raised an eyebrow. He watched as Gu Ye’s cheerful figure disappeared into the distance with utter disdain.
“Xie Cheng?”
“Huh?”
Xie Cheng looked over in confusion. Ge Qiaojun had actually spoken to him first.
“That guy with the surname Yu, is his family good to him?”
Xie Cheng realized the question was about whether the Yu family was good to Gu Ye. He laughed, “If they weren’t good to Gu Ye, would his parents agree to them being together? Don’t worry, they’re closer to him than their own son.”
Ge Qiaojun pursed his lips and didn’t say anything more, but it wasn’t hard to see the worry in his eyes despite his disdain for Gu Ye. Xie Cheng was speechless. Were these two really close, or not?
Halfway down the mountain, Gu Ye met Yu Ze. Seeing all the things behind Yu Ze, Gu Ye was stunned. “What are all these?”
Yu Ze hired many people to carry these things up the mountain. All the items he brought over were for the deceased. There are sports car, villa, airplane, tank1, pigs, horses, cattle, sheep… There are even bridal sedan chairs, horse-drawn carriages, and ghost servants. Both modern and ancient items were available for both men and women. The items are simply too numerous to count.
Gu Ye asked, half-laughing, half-crying, “Who did you bring this for?”
“For your aunt, and some for your master too.” Yu Ze hugged Gu Ye tightly, holding the man who had been away for a week without returning home. “I can’t let you out anymore. If I don’t come to pick you up, you won’t know to come home.”
Gu Ye hugged Yu Ze, deeply moved. He had mentioned his relationship with Auntie to Yu Ze a few times, but he hadn’t expected him to remember it and come in person. Yu Ze remembered everyone who was kind to him. Gu Ye smiled and said, “I was planning to go back tomorrow. I missed you already.”
Yu Ze pinched Gu Ye’s nose. “I guess you still have some conscience.”
Gu Ye smiled, pursing his lips. “I’ll have to rely on you to support me from now on. I wouldn’t dare be heartless.”
Yu Ze chuckled, took Gu Ye’s hand, and the two went up the mountain together.
Seeing Gu Ye with Yu Ze, Ge Qiaojun remained disdainful. Now, there’s one more person to be despised at. Seeing the things Yu Ze had brought, Ge Qiaojun was even more disgusted. “Are you trying to buy an entire city? Where is there room for all this?”
Gu Ye shrugged. “This place is bare anyway, so it won’t cause a forest fire. It’ll just burn down in a bit. Why are you criticizing him?”
“You…” Ge Qiaojun pointed behind him disdainfully, “You should all leave after you’re done.”
Gu Ye wanted to complain about how heartless Dog Qiao was, but he held back for fear of making Yu Ze jealous.
As mentioned before, Gu Ye had promised to set up a memorial tablet for Auntie before he leaves the village. He kept it simple, folding a paper tablet out of joss paper, writing Auntie’s name on it, and placing it in front of the tombstone at dusk. Next, he burned incense and offered sacrifices. Sensing a trace of ghostly energy, Gu Ye’s lips curled into a smile. “Auntie, this is my beloved, Yu Ze.”
Yu Ze turned to look at Gu Ye in surprise. Seeing the seriousness in his eyes, his lips also curved into a smile. Although he didn’t say anything, his gaze towards Gu Ye was full of doting affection.
Previously, when introducing him to others, Gu Ye would say Yu Ze is his boyfriend. But now, facing his deceased elder, Gu Ye solemnly referred to him as his beloved.
Gu Ye burned each item one by one, muttering, “Let my master help you sort this out. You two can divide it as you see fit; it’s all my wife’s way of showing filial piety.”
Hearing that, Yu Ze gave Gu Ye a helpless look. Was Gu Ye happy to take advantage of such a small thing?
Gu Ye smiled, secretly pleased.
But Yu Ze indulged Gu Ye, letting him spout nonsense. After burning everything, Gu Ye helped Ge Qiaojun clean up the place. “We can’t fit everyone tonight, so we’re leaving. Qiao Qiao, call me if you need anything.”
Ge Qiaojun waved dismissively. “Get out of here.”
Gu Ye sighed; he just couldn’t say anything nice.
As Gu Ye descends the mountain, Ge Qiaojun subconsciously walks to the roadside, watching Gu Ye and his companion’s retreating figures.
After walking about 50 meters, Gu Ye suddenly turned around. Seeing Ge Qiaojun looking at him, Gu Ye grinned mischievously and called out, “Qiao Qiao, Daddy’s leaving! Just watch Daddy’s majestic back! Daddy’s going to buy you oranges2!”
Ge Qiaojun: “…”
Yu Ze turned Gu Ye back around. “Stop being naughty, let’s go.”
Gu Ye declared confidently, “I’m not going home, I’m going to buy a dog!”
Yu Ze chuckled. “Did you get triggered?”
Gu Ye angrily refused to answer, “I just want to buy a dog.”
Xie Cheng relayed the story of Ge Qiaojun owning a Munchkin cat named Bastard Gu, leaving Yu Ze speechless. He was acting like a child. Even though Yu Ze was helpless, he still said, “Buy it then. What kind do you want?”
Gu Ye said seriously, “Short-legged, a Corgi, a boy, named Qiao Niu’er.”
At this point, Xie Cheng didn’t even want to go back with Gu Ye. He said disdainfully, “What kind of grudge did you two have in your past lives to fight like this? Are you even 3 years old?”
Seeing Gu Ye’s attitude, Yu Ze knew that Gu Ye and Ge Qiaojun really had nothing going on. He laughed and said, “Buy it. You can have whatever you want, lions, tigers, anything, let alone a dog.”
Gu Ye was happy, “Darling, so handsome!”
Xie Cheng took a deep breath, feeling despair, “You don’t need to take me back, thank you. I can go back by myself.”
Gu Ye asked curiously, “You have money for a plane ticket?”
Xie Cheng: “…You should still take me back, thank you.”
Upon arriving in the capital, Gu Ye dragged Yu Ze to a pet store to buy a dog. On the way, he received a notification from the school. After reading it, Gu Ye said happily, “I got in (passed the exam)! Boss, I’ll come to report to you soon!”
In a very good mood, Yu Ze praised Gu Ye, “Great job.”
Immediately afterward, Gu Ye received messages from Zhao Pengyu and Xia Xiang. Xia Xiang simply wrote: [I passed the exam.]
On the other hand, Zhao Pengyu sent a row of kneeling and crying emojis. Gu Ye asked in surprise: [You didn’t pass?]
Zhao Pengyu: [I’m too shocked! I actually passed too! Heaven and earth are vast, the heavens are so abnormal, how could I pass?!]
After reading the message, Gu Ye was speechless. “This silly nephew, he scared me half to death. I thought he didn’t pass.” Then, Gu Ye saw Yu Ze typing a message, so he leaned over to look. Yu Ze had already notified Secretary Liu: [Arrange an office for Gu Ye; he’ll be interning here.]
Secretary Liu replied almost instantly: [President Yu, what’s the purpose of arranging an office? Isn’t that lounge/break room big enough?] (Shocked.jpg)
Gu Ye awkwardly asked, “What does he mean? Am I that kind of person?”
The author has something to say:
Yu Ze: “Do I say yes or no?”
