Chapter 137 Your Grandpa’s Still Your Grandpa!1
At the moment, Gu Ye was at Le Le’s house. He knew this matter wouldn’t be resolved so easily, so he called Mu Jingfei and asked her to inform her colleagues not to arrest Tian Hong for the time being. Because if she were arrested and didn’t confess, she would still have to be released, which would not only waste time but also disrupt his work. If Tian Hong were still outside, Gu Ye would have other ways to deal with her.
Le Le was already receiving professional treatment arranged by the police, with his mother accompanying him. Only Li Yujie remained at home. Gu Ye chose this moment to summon the old man’s spirit. He wanted to ask if it was the nanny, Tian Hong, who had killed him.
Summoning the soul after one’s death is something no normal person has ever heard of. Li Yujie’s face turned pale when he realized what Gu Ye wanted to do, and fear appeared in his eyes. “Master Gu, can you really summon the ghost?”
Gu Ye nodded and replied with a smile. “Logically speaking, if the karmic ties aren’t severed, he shouldn’t have been reincarnated. So the ghost can be summoned.”
Li Yujie nervously took a few steps back. Standing aside watching Gu Ye light incense, he subconsciously swallowed.
Xie Cheng put his phone in his pocket and walked over to Gu Ye with his arms crossed. Shortly after, a transparent figure appeared in the array circle drawn by Gu Ye. The old man was short and thin, with a bitter feature. Despite having such an unfilial son, this old man was actually dressed quite well. Wearing a blue Tang suit and a small blue round hat, he looked clean and neat.
Upon seeing the ghost, Li Yujie was so startled that he sat bolt upright on the sofa, stammering, “It’s! It’s that old man!”
Seeing a living person in front of him, the old man was also surprised. He looked around in confusion, then looked at Gu Ye and asked blankly, “How did I get here?”
Gu Ye pondered for a moment; this old man seemed a bit simple-minded.
“Grandpa, do you know how you died?”
Hearing that, the old man actually chuckled. Putting his hands behind his back like a typical old man, he said with a grin, “I was struck to death by a fallen object.”
“Pfft!” Gu Ye was amused. “Do you know who did that to you?”
The old man shook his head blankly. “Who?”
Xie Cheng was also amused. He hadn’t expected that bastard Song Wu would have such a good-natured father. “You don’t even know how you died?”
The old man still shook his head. “I didn’t see anything. I was picking up water bottles from the trash can when something hit my head. After a ‘THUD’, I lost consciousness.”
Gu Ye couldn’t help but laugh. This old man was a confused fool; he didn’t even know how he died, and he even had special sound effects for it (his death).
Gu Ye explained, “Old man2, I summoned you here to ask if you know how you died. If you don’t, there’s nothing I can do. But many people are saying you were killed by this family’s child.”
Grandpa Song stroked his short beard, showing no sign of anger. “Oh, I know that child, his name is Le Le, right? I often saw his nanny playing with him downstairs. That child doesn’t talk much.”
“Yes, it’s that child. Old man, from what I read from the child’s face, the culprit wasn’t him. The police are still investigating who it was. But your son has done a lot of awful things, driving this family to the brink of despair.”
Xie Cheng also chimed in, recounting the events with Gu Ye. This family lost their house, their jobs, and moved three times. Now they’re being attacked online. The old man’s son comes every few days, demanding money each time, treating the family like an ATM. Song Wu’s wife treated Le Le’s mother like a nanny, and Le Le’s illness has worsened; the child doesn’t say a word all day. In short, the family of three was driven to the brink of suicide by jumping off a bridge, but he and Gu Ye coincidentally stopped them.
Upon hearing this, the old man angrily said, “Don’t give him any money! Give him no money whatsoever! That unfilial son! You’ve done enough. My son is a scoundrel. He’s driven his mother to her death, and he’s not filial to me either. You don’t need to ruin yourselves for him. The child, Le Le, is young. Whether he did it or not, it wasn’t intentional. You’ve done so much; your sincerity is enough. Even if it were your family (the culprit), I would forgive you guys.”
Li Yujie was surprised by the old man’s kindness and was no longer afraid. He stared blankly at the old man’s ghost, his eyes filled with emotion.
The old man stopped his words and then asked helplessly, “The clothes I’m wearing now, did you burn them for me?”
Li Yujie nodded. He had paid for the old man’s funeral arrangements; he had only done it to do his part.
Grandpa Song gave a bitter laugh. “I knew it. My son would never buy me clothes. And you also bought me a grave because you felt bad about it, right?”
Li Yujie nodded again, “At the time, we thought Le Le had killed you. If we didn’t do this, our conscience wouldn’t be at peace.”
The reply made Grandpa Song smile with satisfaction. “Thank you all. I didn’t have a good life while I was alive, but I’m enjoying this blessing in death. Whether I died because of your child or not, I don’t blame you. If he comes asking for money again, I’ll appear in his dreams and break his legs! Now that I’m dead, he can’t touch me anymore. I’ll go find him tonight!”
In that instant, Li Yujie cried. Netizens and passersby had placed layer upon layer of moral shackles on their family, but the old man felt their sincerity and said he forgave them. Those so-called shackles were merely attempts by unrelated people to drive them to their deaths. Why should they give in to their wishes? Why should they die?
At this moment, Li Yujie had never been so resolute: no matter how bitter or difficult things became, he would live on! He would live to show those who were forcing them that their words meant nothing!
Gu Ye hadn’t thought of a solution yet. Looking out the window, he pondered for a moment. The child’s grievance was still there. At the moment, the police were investigating manually. But over a year had passed, and the evidence was insufficient, making the investigation difficult. Gu Ye didn’t have that much time to wait for the investigation to unfold step by step; he wanted to go home as soon as possible.
The only one who knew the whole story was the nanny, Tian Hong, and she was highly suspicious. After thinking for a while, Gu Ye’s eyes suddenly lit up. He looked at Xie Cheng, “I’ve thought of a way.”
Xie Cheng asked suspiciously, “What way? Be more reliable. Why do I sense something fishy in your eyes?”
Gu Ye smiled, his eyes crinkling. “This is the first time I’ve used this method, and I need your help.”
Xie Cheng felt Gu Ye’s smile was even more wicked. “How do you want me to help?”
“I can use ghosts to enter dreams and access memories. Children’s souls are weaker, and using this technique can easily lead to mental impairment. Therefore, it cannot be used on Le Le, but it works fine on adults.”
Xie Cheng suddenly understood. “You want to check Tian Hong?”
“Yes, it’s a bit risky, so I need your help. I absolutely can’t let anyone disturb me. Otherwise, if I lose focus even slightly, she’ll become mentally impaired.”
Xie Cheng frowned. “Is this method reliable?”
“Theoretically, it’s fine. I’ll first read her face to confirm it’s her, then check her memories to see what happened. If she’s a good person, I won’t check her.”
Xie Cheng thought it was a good idea, but then asked, “How do you get her out of her house?”
Gu Ye chuckled, “Ghost possession.”
Xie Cheng said seriously, “Gu San’er, you really aren’t a good person.”
Gu Ye: “Tui!” (spitting sound)
Riding a car full of non-humans, the 2 masters, who preferred to travel at night, set off to find Tian Hong.
After arriving near Tian Hong’s house, Gu Ye smoothed Ling Ling’s hair and said gently, “Daughter, it’s up to you now. Help daddy to use your resentment to possess her and take her to a secluded place.”
Gu Ye had never assigned Ling Ling any tasks. In his mind, daughters were meant to be pampered, while eldest sons like Ye Li were the ones who should be doing chores. But Ling Ling was overjoyed to finally be able to help her father, and the little girl happily said, “Don’t worry, Dad, I promise I’ll get her out!”
It was late at night, and everyone in Tian Hong’s family was asleep. No one saw a resentful aura creep in through the crack in the door. It floated to Tian Hong’s bedside and took the form of a small figure, hovering and watching her. The aura curled its small, red lips into a sinister smile. Its eerie, terrifying expression was exactly the same as Gu Ye’s when he was plotting against someone.
Immediately afterward, the aura of resentment flew into Tian Hong’s body. The next second, Tian Hong sat up expressionlessly, floating out of the bed. After rotating her body ninety degrees, her feet touched the ground. She put on her cotton coat and walked out step by step. When she reached the door, she looked at her bare feet, then turned back to put on her shoes, walking out like a normal person. The whole process was silent; even her husband didn’t hear it.
Upon seeing Gu Ye’s car, ‘Tian Hong’ excitedly ran forward. She called out happily as she ran, “Dad! I’m back! Uncle Xie!” Her face clearly said: I did great, you guys should praise me!
Gu Ye and Xie Cheng simultaneously facepalmed. “The scene is too much to bear, we can’t watch.”
Gu Ye said wearily, “The child is so happy, you should encourage her.”
Xie Cheng: “She’s your daughter, praise her.”
Gu Ye’s lips twitched. He still couldn’t bear to see this woman, much older than him, call him ‘Dad’ so he quickly praised Ling Ling. Gu Ye looked at Tian Hong’s face, and his expression darkened. There was a 99% chance Tian Hong was the murderer. Gu Ye didn’t want to waste any more time. He summoned the ghost doll hidden in the pendant. “Enter her dream and make her relive that memory.”
The ghost doll obediently did as instructed and soon sent a signal to Gu Ye.
Gu Ye took a talisman and affixed it to the top of Tian Hong’s head. His fingertip landed between Tian Hong’s eyebrows, and he began to examine this memory. Xie Cheng also tensed up. He is guarding his surroundings warily, afraid that someone or some unsuspecting wandering ghost might come to disturb Gu Ye.
With Xie Cheng there, Gu Ye could focus entirely on the task at hand. The scene in the memory opens in a living room, where Le Le is playing with building blocks by the window. Gu Ye’s current perspective is from the kitchen doorway, so he understands that this must be Li Yujie’s former home.
Tian Hong, holding a bowl of rice, called to Le Le to eat. But after calling several times, Le Le didn’t hear her and continued playing. Tian Hong angrily put down the bowl and slammed her hand on the table. “Le Le, are you going to eat or not?”
Hearing the loud noise, Le Le finally reacted. But he only glanced back at her and shook his head before continuing to play with his blocks.
Tian Hong angrily walked over and knocked over Le Le’s blocks. “I told you to eat! Didn’t you hear me? Are you mute?”
Seeing his carefully arranged blocks knocked over, Le Le burst into tears.
Tian Hong said irritably, “Stop crying! You cry all the time. You never listen to anything I say; all you do is cry and make a scene. What can you do? Your mother might as well have another child!”
Tian Hong grew increasingly angry that Gu Ye could even sense Tian Hong’s emotions. Facing this child every day, she felt like strangling him, yet she still wanted to earn this money (as the nanny). Furious, she slapped Le Le, threatening, “Stop crying! You’re so annoying!”
Le Le cried even louder. As he cried, he continued to build his castle with the blocks, trying to recreate it. Seeing this, Tian Hong angrily opened the window. Next, she grabbed a handful of blocks and threw them out. “Build, build, build! All you know is this kind of stupid stuff!”
After that, Tian Hong pulled Le Le over and started feeding him. Before he’d eaten more than a few bites, they heard a commotion outside the building. Someone downstairs shouted, “Someone has been struck by something fallen from above! It was thrown from upstairs! Someone’s been killed!”
Realizing what had happened, Tian Hong was stunned. She quickly grabbed Le Le and ran downstairs. Seeing the blood-stained building block, Tian Hong was terrified. Looking at Le Le, who was still clueless about what had happened, Tian Hong gritted her teeth, steeled her resolve, and came up with an idea. She pinched the child hard. “I told you not to play with building blocks! You killed someone! Your parents should pay for it!”
Le Le looked bewildered and glanced at the building blocks he’d been clutching as he came downstairs. At that moment, everyone’s eyes turned to Le Le. Noticing that the blocks in his hand were from the same set that had killed the old man, the crowd’s expressions changed drastically. “This kid killed the old man!”
Tian Hong cried, “I told you not to play with building blocks, but you wouldn’t listen! Look what’s going on now! Were you playing with the building blocks? Were you disobeying me?”
When Tian Hong asked that question, Le Le was dumbfounded. The child couldn’t understand her cryptic words at all. With so many people watching, Le Le tried to bury his head in Tian Hong’s arms in fear, but she quickly straightened his head. Facing so many people, Le Le nodded fearfully; he had indeed been playing with building blocks. With that naive nod, the child accepted the blame for killing Grandpa Song.
What happened next was even more infuriating. After dealing with the persistent Song Wu and his family, Le Le’s parents came back and scolded Tian Hong, saying that she hadn’t taken good care of the child, which was why this had happened. Le Le’s parents were obviously angry, and since they could no longer afford to hire a nanny after the compensation, they decided to fire her.
Taking advantage of the situation, Tian Hong demanded 6 months’ salary, threatening to expose the matter online if she wasn’t paid. She knew that Li Yujie and his wife didn’t want to escalate the situation. She reasoned that with her audacity, the other party would never suspect her. The more arrogant she was, the less likely they would suspect her, allowing her to get money for nothing. Tian Hong was somewhat clever, but not very bold. So after taking the money, she left immediately.
