Chapter 113: Good Brothers Should Dig Graves Together

When that incident happened a month ago, Lu Xi’s husband, Chen Hanqing, was so devastated that he fainted on the spot. It was understandable; losing his wife and children in the blink of an eye would be too much for anyone to handle. As the rumors had it, he was indeed resuscitated for a long time before his life was saved.

Fearing Chen Hanqing wouldn’t be able to bear the shock of returning home, his sister took him to a hospital near their home. He was nursed back to health until he was able to get up and move around. Only then did he recover and return home.

Now that Chen Hanqing recovered, he came to claim the bodies of his wife and children. He wasn’t alone as his sister, brother-in-law, and his wife’s relatives, which was more than a dozen of them, arrived together. Early in the morning, the police station was filled with sobbing as the family members were unable to contain their emotions. His wife’s family members were sobbing so hard they couldn’t even be held together.

On the other hand, Chen Hanqing was acting differently from the grief expressed by his relatives. He remained calm and didn’t cry. He simply stood in the crowd with a blank expression. But only in his thirties, Chen Hanqing’s thin figure now somewhat stooped, his eyes staring blankly ahead. A closer look revealed a lack of focus, a dead silence. He already had gray hair at his temples. The police spoke to him two or three times before he realized they were speaking to him.

The police officer felt a pang of pain at this scene and offered comfort, “My condolences, but the dead cannot be brought back to life. Please don’t dwell on it.”

While the police were trying to persuade him and process the paperwork for Chen Hanqing to sign, Chen Hanqing suddenly asked, “I heard that those who obstructed the rescue died?”

The police officer asked calmly, “Where did you get this information? Who said the victims were people who delayed the fire rescue?”

Chen Hanqing suddenly sneered, his thin face suddenly turning cold and fierce, like a demon. He snarled, “Serves them right! They all deserve to die! If they were still alive, I’d kill them too. Every one of them is a murderer.”

The officer in charge frowned. Judging from Chen Hanqing’s reaction, he seemed to be on the verge of a mental breakdown. Once he left the police station and buried his wife and children, he would be free of restraint. Then he might dare to go out and kill someone. His hatred was too obvious.

At this moment, Gu Ye arrived at the police station. Seeing the crowded reception hall, he reluctantly squeezed past. Seeing Xiao Wang, he quickly took a few steps and pulled him aside. He whispered, “I want to see the bodies of the two children. 3 minutes will be enough.”

Xiao Wang nodded in understanding. He gestured to the receptionist and led Gu Ye to the morgue. “The impact that Lu Xi’s husband suffered was too much, and he looked like he had gone mad. That expression on his face suggests he also wanted to kill someone and set fire.”

Gu Ye glanced back, frowning. “It’s a normal reaction. Anyone who loses their wife and children will hate others, even themselves. Mental problems can develop, and crime can happen in the blink of an eye. It’s best to keep an eye on him for now; he might overreact.”

Xiao Wang nodded. “I’ll tell the local police station to find him a psychiatrist and have him have more sessions.”

Under Xiao Wang’s guidance, Gu Ye found the bodies of the two children. Both had died from smoke inhalation; the younger one was too young, like a small ball. Seeing these two tiny children lying there lifeless, Gu Ye felt a pang of pain. “How terrible!”

Xiao Wang urged, “Master Gu, hurry up! It won’t be good if the other colleagues see this.”

Gu Ye quickly took out 2 talismans and placed them on the children’s foreheads. He made a finger gesture and chanted, “Soul of this child, obey my command! Return here at this moment! Souls, Return!”

The talisman shone with a golden light, and 2 small figures suddenly appeared at Gu Ye’s feet. Seeing this stranger, Gu Ye, the two children looked up at him with horror, trembling with fear. Gu Ye patted their heads soothingly, “Don’t be afraid. I’ll take you to your mother.”

Placing the souls in a bottle, Gu Ye tore off the talismans, cleaned off the traces, and pushed the bodies back to their original positions. Xiao Wang couldn’t see the souls and couldn’t understand what he was doing. Seeing that Gu Ye had finished, he urged, “Are you done?”

Gu Ye nodded. “Alright, let’s go.”

As Gu Ye and Xiao Wang left, they happened to see the police handing the remains to Lu Xi’s husband. The item placed on top was a jade Buddha. The object looked quite old, with several noticeable cracks on it. Chen Hanqing’s gloomy expression finally cracked at the sight of these things. Tears welled in his eyes as he grasped the jade, clutching it tightly in his palm and pressing it against his forehead. Even with his eyes closed, tears still streamed down his face.

Seeing Chen Hanqing trembling, his hands so tense that his knuckles turned white and his veins bulged, Gu Ye had a bad feeling well up in his stomach. Sure enough, when Chen Hanqing released his grip and looked at the shattered jade in his hand, he was completely devastated. He cried and tried to piece it back together, but it was all in vain.

Gu Ye’s heart sank. It was over. The thing that had held Lu Xi down was now destroyed. The Lu Xi he’d see again tonight would undoubtedly be a darker version of herself. Hopefully, these two children would bring her to her senses and stop her from committing further murders.

Having done everything he needed to do, Gu Ye peacefully went back to sleep. He slept until a little after 4.00 pm until Xie Cheng knocked on the door and woke him. “This precious Master, do you want to eat something?”

Gu Ye lazily got up and washed his face, finally fully awake. While eating, he told Xie Cheng what he had done that morning. “Now let’s make a bet: if the mother knew her children were with us, would she come looking for them?”

Xie Cheng thought for a moment and said seriously, “She should come. She’s been looking for the child, which shows how much the child means to her.”

With a regretful tone, Gu Ye said, “If the divination plate was still usable, I could use it to predict good or bad luck.”

Xie Cheng advised, “If the old doesn’t go, the new won’t come. If it’s broken, it means your fate with it has ended. Go back and get it repaired. If that doesn’t work, buy a new one.”

Gu Ye nodded. “That makes sense.”

Back at the hotel, Gu Ye pulled the old divination plate out of his bag and tossed it directly into the trash.

“Hey!” Xie Cheng was speechless. “Maybe it can be used after repairing it. After all, it costs thousands.”

“No,” Gu Ye said seriously. “Our fate is over. I don’t want it anymore.”

Hearing that childish remark, Xie Cheng said disdainfully, “You can only be a 3-years old. Not anymore older.”

“Actually…” Gu Ye looked at Xie Cheng seriously. He looked like he wanted to say something, but stopped himself.

Xie Cheng urged, “What are you dilly-dallying for? Hurry up and tell me what you want to say.”

Gu Ye said seriously, “I have a grave-digging business I’d like to do with you.”

The proposal made Xie Cheng’s mouth twitch. “Calm down, digging graves is bad karma!”

Gu Ye said seriously, “I want to dig up my senior brother’s grave. I heard someone built a cenotaph for him. Inside it is the Du Gua plate he used when he was alive, a treasure passed down from our sect.”

“Are you crazy? Your senior brother died so tragically, and you’re digging up his grave? Calm down!”

“I’m just asking, is this rumor true?”

“It’s true. The tombstone was erected by my master, and the contents were placed there by my master himself. There are many magic arrays around it, and even ordinary metaphysical masters can’t get close. I won’t accompany you to seek death.”

Xie Cheng was about to dissuade Gu Ye from the idea, but Gu Ye’s eyes brightened, solidifying his resolve. Xie Cheng was exhausted, looking at Gu Ye as if he were crazy. “Are you really so unworried about the consequences?”

“What’s there to worry about? He’s gone, don’t you all already know? My senior brother’s soul has been shattered, so all I have to do is carry on his legacy.” Gu Ye said with a grin, “Those damned bastards can go to hell.”

Hearing that, Xie Cheng palmed his forehead. He even had the urge to call Yu Ze and complain. Gu Ye was too bold.

Gu Ye smiled and said, “Don’t worry. If my master and senior brother are still alive, they’ll protect me. After all, I’m the only one left in our sect. If they don’t protect me, I’ll end this sect.”

Xie Cheng was at a loss for words. “It’s a miracle your master didn’t die from anger.”

In the evening, Gu Ye released the 2 little ghosts. He gave them candy and toys and coaxed them, “I’ll take you to find your mother, okay?”

The little boy held his sister in his arms and looked at Gu Ye warily. “Both my teacher and mother said that anyone who offers us delicious food and says they’ll take us to find our parents, they are a liar. Are you trying to sell me?”

The child questioned Gu Ye while trembling; it was obvious that he was terrified. That amused Gu Ye, but at the same time, his heart ached for them. Such a bright and lovely child, but lost their life before they could even start living. It is such a shame. He said gently, “I promise I won’t lie to you. Follow me and you’ll see your mother. It’s just that I don’t know how long you can be together with her.”

Gu Ye knelt down, touched each of the children’s heads, and said softly, “This may be the last time you guys meet, so you two must be obedient.”

Xie Cheng said helplessly, “The way you worded it sounded more like a bad guy would say to children. They won’t understand if you say too much.”

The remark made Gu Ye feel embarrassed, but there was nothing he could do. He really wasn’t very good at coaxing children.

Xie Cheng pulled Gu Ye aside and squatted down. Then he said to the two children, “You two lost kids, we’re police officers. Here are our IDs.” Xie Cheng opened his wallet, flashed his ID1, and said seriously, “I’ll take you to your mother later. Don’t run around. Got it?”

The defensive look in the little boy’s eyes softened a little, and he nodded obediently.

Gu Ye was speechless. Xie Cheng looked so experienced in tricking children that he wanted to report him to the police. Sir, he was a potential human traffckr, so please don’t be lenient and beat him to death.

Gu Ye led the little boy, who then led his sister, to the haunted house. Then he lit a stick of soul-summoning incense, and the nearby ghosts gathered around after smelling the scent. Gu Ye tossed them a handful of Hell notes as a fee for their services: “Now that you’ve taken my money and smelled my incense, please tell this woman I have her child and ask her to come to pick them up.”

The little boy asked worriedly, “Will my mother really come?”

Gu Ye smiled and asked in return, “Does your mother love you?”

The little boy replied proudly, “Of course. Mom loves us the most.”

“Then she’ll definitely come.”

While waiting, Gu Ye took some snacks and shared them with the two children. Seeing the two-year-old girl’s innocent expression, Gu Ye stroked her pigtails with a smile. The little girl was quite adorable, unlike the bratty boy.

Xie Cheng held up a whip. “If his mother comes and has already gone mad, should we resort to violence?”

Gu Ye said helplessly, “Of course we should, since she’s definitely carrying a lot of resentment. Honestly, I don’t want to take any actions, but to stop her from killing any more people, I have no choice.”

“What will we do after we catch her?”

Gu Ye pointed up to the Heavens. “Let’s leave it to fate.” As he spoke, a murderous aura permeated the entire haunted house. Gu Ye stood up warily.

Xie Cheng tightened his grip on the whip and sighed, “Such a strong murderous aura!”

“Isn’t that obvious? Killing 6 people in one go and seriously injuring one. How can the resentment not be strong?”

A ghostly figure silently approached Gu Ye and Xie Cheng. Lu Xi’s eyes were red, and black smoke billowed from her body. She glared at both of them with resentment. Her gaze fell on the two children, briefly flickering before transforming into a sinister one, “Give the children back to me!”

Lu Xi was completely different from when they’d met last night. Hatred had blinded her, and her rationality was gone. She was consumed by revenge and murder.

Gu Ye said calmly, “You’re in this state. Do I give the children back to you so that you can feed on them?”

“Stop talking nonsense and give me my child back!” Lü Xi ignored Gu Ye and rushed forward to snatch the child. As she moved, the murderous aura around her began to smoke. Her aura surprisingly carried a temperature, burning anyone close enough to touch.

Xie Cheng swung his whip, piercing the air with a sharp sound. Lü Xi didn’t even try to dodge, but raised her arm to block the blow. With a PA!, sparks flew in the air, and white smoke billowed from Lü Xi’s arm. Clearly, Xie Cheng’s whip was effective.

Lu Xi was immediately annoyed. “Gu Ye? What kind of master are you? Why aren’t you helping me? You’re helping the bad guys?!”

Hearing that, Xie Cheng turned to Gu Ye and said with disdain, “See, she really does recognize you.”
